Long Before the President Was Ready to Shake Hands With the Waiting Crowds, Thousands Were in Line.
Washington, D. C., Jan. 1.--President Taft's fourth and last New Year's reception at the White House was greeted by a day beautiful and bright. Thousands early turned their steps in the direction of the executive mansion. Long before the chief executive was ready to shake their hands, men, women and children stood in line from the front door of the White House to the distant gate and far beyond, towards the state, war and navy buildings.

Washington, D. C., Jan. 1.--Surrounded by his family, members of the cabinet and a distinguished company, President Taft today held his last New Year's reception at the White House. The gathering today was an unusually brilliant one.
