SWELL MILITARY DINNER.
Is Given by General McCrum at Camp Leedy.

The first swell military dinner took place at Camp Leedy yesterday. Just before mess call Mrs. Charles McCrum, Charles McCrum, Jr., Lieutenant Colonel Charles N. Nelson and wife and Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Patten of Burlingame arrived to pay their respects to General McCrum. Of course General McCrum invited them to stay to dinner and then he requested Sergeant Major Parker to have dinner served at headquarters for seven.

Sergeant Parker, in charge of the dinner, did not intend to have it just a common affair, and when the company was ushered into the dinner on tables made from dry goods boxes there was a bill of fare fit for a king. Pork chops, ham, bacon and steak were the meats. Fried, baked and boiled potatoes. Six kinds of cake, pies, cookies, pickles and to make the climax, a half dozen bottles of apollinaris water bobbing around in a bucket of ice and water.

The dinner party was a merry one, and when one of the corks from the bottles went off with a loud report the sentry behind the tent guard No. 2, and the whole guard came tumbling out of their tent down to headquarters tent to see if the general had been shot by some prowling colored tough, found that it was only a cork that went off, and from a water bottle at that. Then they were disgusted and returned to their quarters.
