N. B. On the 29th of July, a Spanish 36 Gun Frigate, which enfiladed our Lines, and retarded the finishing our Batteries, was sunk in the Harbour: but in less than an Hour's Time, her Place was supplied by a 74 Gun Ship.

Viceroy of Mexico and Governor of Carthagena present during siege. Governor credits providence for winds preventing English fleet from approaching earlier. On August 11 general attack, Spanish officers reported to governor that English fire too hot to man guns safely and refused to continue. During ten hours of battery fire on town and forts, 300 Spaniards killed but town minimally damaged as firing targeted forts primarily. On July 29, Spanish frigate sunk in harbor after enfilading lines, quickly replaced.
