The Princess of Wales arrived incognito in Vienna on April 9, 1814, as Duchess of Cornwallis with a suite of 15, staying at the Empress of Austria's hotel after ambassadors were absent. She visited the Empress and plans to depart via Laybach, Trieste, and Venice to her seat at Garovo on Lake Como. Reports suggest prior quarrels there were minor, due to local jealousy. Plans for Paris and England canceled; possible Persia trip later.

The Princess of Wales arrived here in the night before last, about 2 o'clock, under the name of Duchess of Cornwallis (Cornwall) accompanied with a suite of fifteen persons, and was set down at the hotel of the Empress of Austria. A courier from Munich had previously announced that her Royal Highness was coming, and that she intended to alight at the English Ambassador's (Lord Stewart:) but he went away the evening before for his country seat at Kitsec. The Minister of the Kingdom of Hanover, (Alexander Count Hardenburg) followed his example, and also absented himself; so that the Princess was obliged to alight at a public hotel. The Court sent to her a chamberlain to wait on her: and, although she observed the strictest incognito, as the Court Gazette this day announces, the Princess, however, paid a visit to the Empress. She will go away to-morrow, and travel through Laybach, Trieste, and Venice, on her return to her beautiful seat at Garovo, on the lake of Como. It thus appears that the disagreements between the domestics of the Princess and the inhabitants of Como were not very serious. These quarrels, indeed, are attributed to the jealousy, of some husbands at Como. "It is not known what are the reasons which have dissuaded the princess from her projected journey to Paris, and thence, with all her attendants, to England; but it is now again asserted, that she will make an excursion into Persia in the course of the year."
