Full Text

An awful instance of mental derangement lately occurred in Ohio. A woman of exemplary character had imbibed an immovable opinion that she had committed the unpardonable sin, and utterly despaired of salvation. She had three young children, whose salvation she supposed might be secured by an early removal from this world; and, as she imagined no act of hers could make her own prospect worse, she resolved to put them to death; which she executed by drowning them, on the Sabbath, while her husband was at meeting.—[Del.
