Champaign, Ill., Feb. 26.—With one death and an epidemic of scarlet fever, also a case of smallpox at the University of Illinois, every public meeting has been cancelled.
Miss Ona Reno, 20, a nurse who cared for J. F. Carter of Princeton, the second victim of the epidemic, and who entered the isolation hospital under protest of the hospital authorities, died yesterday.
Harold Martin of Cairo was stricken with smallpox.
Students have been asked to cease leaving the school in order to prevent the spread of the epidemic over the state.
State Board of Health ordered Urbana schools, motion picture houses, dance halls and all places of public meeting closed.
