The Battle in Virginia.
Richmond, Feb. 26.-Gen. Jackson was
engaged by the enemy, whose force was
eighteen thousand strong, at Barton's
Mills, five miles this side of Winchester,
on Sunday afternoon.
A dispatch has just been received at
the War Department in this city, from
Gen. Joseph E. Johnston, which states
that the Federals were repulsed with great
loss.
Gen. Jackson held the field, having lost
two hundred killed and wounded.
He fell back the same evening, under
cover of the night, to Cedar Creek.
Jackson's force did not exceed six thousand.
