SALEM. Nov. 26.

Mr. John Mace, of this town, arrived here since our last from Sumatra. He informs us, that there was a report at Bencoolen, the 12th July, that Batavia had surrendered to the English. It was rumoured, that an English squadron from Bengal had for some time formed the blockade of that place; and this report was brought to Bencoolen by a vessel which spoke one of the English squadron in the Straits of Sunda, from which he received the account. This report was not entirely depended on, but greatly credited.
