Margaret Burchett of the Beaverton school was judged winner this week of an essay contest sponsored in the seventh and eighth grades of the county by the Valley Dairy association. Betty DeLay of Glasgow was judged winner of a similar contest for fifth and sixth grade pupils.
Second place in the first contest was given to William Durell of the Tiger Butte school and in the other to Helen Morton of the Glasgow schools.
The children wrote essays on the theme, "The Dairy Cow and Her Gift to Mankind." The essays winning first place in the county contest will be entered in the state contest sponsored by Montana Dairy Industries, Inc. The state prizes are $50 war bonds for first place and $25 war bonds for second place.
County prizes were $1.50 in war stamps for first and 50 cents in war stamps for second place. Judges were Joe Gorman, Miss Loetta Olson and Adrian Hanson.
