Wouldn't You
By Wes Lancasier
In North America, including the Palmer area most people would feel insulted if they were labeled idol worshippers. But by God's definition most people are, including many who profess to be truly Christian.
1.
The first law that God delivered to man was simply this; "Thou shalt have no other gods before Me." What is it to have some "other god" before Him? Whatever is first in our affections: whatever has our greatest interest, devotion, allegiance and effort in life that is our god! If the God of heaven is not first with us in the manner just described, then something or someone else is. And that "something else" is our god for it takes the place that belongs to our Creator and Redeemer.
This is the basic sin that brought the downfall of man in the garden of Eden. "My way instead of God's way!" Self enthroned instead of God. Anything that is unlike Christ in our attitudes is self and to please self ahead of God is idolatry.
So long as man goes his own way instead of God's way we will have "civil war" inside us. We will be shackled in slavery to sin and we will have cruel destruction in the world.
For yourself and your children WOULDN'T YOU rather have God?
Pd. adv.
