Full Text

From the Newbern Republican.
Taste Not.—A correspondent of the Spirit of the Age, the Organ of the Sons of Temperance, inquires whether members of the Order are allowed the use of Syllabub. The Editor replies "that the using of Syllabub, Wine-Sauce, Brandy Peaches, or the eating, drinking, or sopping of anything having in it any of the accursed poison, by a Son of Temperance, knowingly, and with a view to avoid the letter of the Pledge, is a violation of its spirit, and should be treated accordingly."
How about Egg-nog and mince-pie? Are both of these proscribed?
