A MONEY THIEF CORNERED.

August Andersen, a Swede, but six weeks from the old country and two weeks in Yankton, was found in John Mitchell's saloon on the evening of the 7th instant. He imbibed frequently, not wisely but too deeply, and late in the evening exhibited his money, getting a fifty-dollar bill changed.

A man named James Dean, hailing from Pittsburg, Penn., was also in the saloon, and he and the Swede were the last to leave the saloon. The Swede went to Larson's boarding house, went into the hall and sat down where he fell asleep, and yesterday morning found himself minus of $92. He was followed home, and as he lived in the lower part of town, he went into Larson's, as he says, to get away from the man who was following him. Yesterday Dean was lavish of money, buying a new suit of clothes, fiddle, boots, &c., so that suspicion was fastened upon him as being the thief, and he was accordingly arrested by Deputy Marshal Merahon, who searched his person and found $18 in money concealed between his pants and drawers. Other circumstances of a suspicious character were shown at the preliminary examination last evening before Justice Roberts. The defendant offered no evidence whatever, and Justice Roberts held him to answer in the district court, and fixed his bonds at $150. E. G. Wheeler appeared for the defendant.
