Full Text

Major Doney, who has been making Missoula his annual visit which begins at Thanksgiving BACK HOME and lasts till the Christmas call sounds from Pike's Peak and Pioneer, will start for home this morning. He will reach home in time to enliven the holiday season at the famous old placer camp and will have a warm reception. The major is as popular at home as he is abroad and his townspeople always acclaim his return when he has concluded his annual pilgrimage down the river to Missoula. This year, the major has had a pleasant visit, so he says. But he always has a pleasant time, wherever he goes.

He crossed the plains, afoot, three times before he concluded that western Montana was the best place on earth but when he made up his mind he settled down here and has been on this side of the range ever since. He has become so much a part of the life of the old placer basin that they would find it hard to get along without him. He carries back with him the best wishes of his Missoula friends for a happy Christmas and many of them.
