By the Ship Washington lately arrived at New-York, from Canton, we learn, That the brig Hope, Capt. Ingraham, and brig Hancock, Capt. Crowell, both of this port, were arrived in or near the river of Canton, from the West Coast of America; which voyage they effected, from Boston, in about 14 months. The Hope spoke the Ship Columbia, Capt. Gray, on the Coast, who informed Capt. Ingraham that his 2d officer Mr. Joshua Caswell, with several of the Columbia's men, had been massacred by the natives.

We are sorry to add the death of Mr. Crafts, an officer in the Hope, and only son of Thomas Crafts, Esq. of this town.

Capt. Ingraham carried out with him one of the natives of the Sandwich Islands, which he visited twice during his voyage. He found the utmost circumpection was necessary to prevent a surprizal.
