Mr. Wilson's Magnificent Speech Last Night.—Hon. Wm. L. Wilson our representative in Congress, spoke last night in Academy Hall to a crowded house. Several ladies were present and the cornet band, newly uniformed, was out in full force. Everybody expected a brilliant oration from Mr. Wilson, our people had heard him before on various issues, but even his most ardent admirers were hardly expecting such a masterpiece. For two hours and ten minutes he held that audience as in a vice. He didn't dodge a single question or issue upon which the people expected to hear him speak. He discussed the tariff question, he explained how, under Republican rule, the competition of foreign labor has been encouraged and the best parts of our great western public domain handed over to railroad monopolies. The statement of his position on the Morrison Bill was convincing and satisfactory. He is in favor of lowering the burdensome tax which the Government imposes but is no "Free Trader."

His speech was logical, easily understood and full of eloquent passages. Every voter in the district ought to have heard it. The idea of putting up such a man as Mr. Reynolds, weak, uninformed, with very meagre education and no oratorical ability, against the culture, experience, knowledge and brain power of Mr. Wilson is preposterous in the extreme. Mr. Wilson will be his own successor.
