VALDOSTA, Ga.. (AP) - A pilot stayed with his crippled Air Force C47 plane until six others got out, then leaped to safety today.

Maj. Joe C. Price of Lenoir, N. C. landed near his baggage which he had thrown out, picked up his suitcase and walked to his home in a nearby residential area to pick up a new hat before reporting back to Moody Air Force Base.

The only casualty was W. M. Morton of Valdosta, Moody Ground Safety Director, who broke an arm in his parachute leap.

The ancient C47 developed trouble in its right engine soon after takeoff from Moody for the Air Training Command Center at Randolph AFB, Texas.

With flames spurting from an engine, Price managed to get the plane over a swampy section. He circled it three times while the others parachuted.
