-Premier Chautemps resigned
because he could not win from
Parliament the extra power necessary
to reorganize French finances so as to cut government
finances by decree. He told the
crowded, silent chamber that he
wanted the decree powers, because
persistent rumors of cabinet
changes had taken all liberty and power from his government.

PARIS. March 11. (P)-Leon
Blum, the socialist ex-Premier,
accepted President Albert Lebrun's mandate to attempt the
formation of a new cabinet, replacing the resigned Chautemps
government.
