USO Recreation Plaza

Philadelphia. - Organized labor, city officials and the United War Chest cooperated with USO in the establishment of a new open air recreation plaza adjacent to City Hall, it was announced.

Labor for the entire construction job was donated by the Central Labor Union, composed of AFL unions in Philadelphia. The CIO Industrial Union Council of Philadelphia furnished and equipped the center. The United War Chest of Philadelphia contributed $16,000 for operating expenses for the Plaza and Mayor Bernard Samuel appropriated $5,000 for materials. Supervision of the center is in charge of the USO Council.
