Simple clothes, with easy-to-master fastenings, are a great satisfaction to the child that is learning to dress himself, as well as to the busy mother, says Miss Eves Whitfield, clothing specialist of the home demonstration office, University Farm. Selecting the proper clothing for children relieves a mother of many hours of toil and worry. Miss Whitfield's recommendations for childrens' play attire, follow:

"For the little tot, the knitted sun suit retains its popularity. Two are enough for variety and are just right for play, when worn with a sweater on cool mornings and with an eyeshade through the day. The simplest of laundering puts the outfit in readiness for another day.

"Abbreviated suits are not as bulky to take care of and fill the bill for summer time variety. For junior, trousers made wide and short, and supported by a scant blouse or even straps, will be cool and allow complete freedom for action. A second pair of trousers for each blouse will greatly reduce the mother's clothing care problem.

"For little sister, scant bloomers or trunks, mounted on a net blouse, allow her every cool breeze that blows. When occasion demands, the matching dress may be slipped on and she is ready for even a party.

"The one and only garment, the overall, or play pajama, is cool when worn as such. When the 10 and 12 year old is considered, it means a substantial saving in laundering. Shorts that match the dress are a popular 'teen-age' combination."
