Full County Ticket Named by the Democrats on Saturday.
Very Good attendance of the Unterrified—Enthusiastic Nominations—Every man is admirably fitted for the Position for which he is Placed in Nomination—Large amount of business Transacted—Everything is harmonious and Everything is in good shape—McGraw heartily endorsed.
Work of the Meeting—The County Committee is reorganized—John Alexander Retires and J. J. Wharton is Elected to fill the Vacancy—Full Proceedings of both Meetings.
The Democrats of the county held their convention on Saturday in the feed store of Jason Clark in South Morgantown. The morning was a very bad one and a great many people were kept away by that fact. However the attendance was much better than was expected and those who were there were very enthusiastic.
A county ticket was nominated and every man was placed in nomination because he was fitted in an eminent degree to perform the duties which the office for which he was named imposes on a man and not because of some other reason and in the face of the fact of unfitness. Every man named goes before the people representing the best interests of the county in every way and their election would in no case be a mistake. This cannot be said of all the tickets that have been named in the county this fall.
There is a great deal of dissatisfaction among the Republicans over the nominations that they have made and the opportunity is now given those who are disgruntled a chance to vote for a man who does represent what they want and who would be an ornament to the office for which he is named.
The convention was called to order by the county chairman John Alexander who called S. C. Stewart to the chair. On motion Justin M. Kunkle was made secretary. The temporary organization was made permanent on motion.
A committee composed of one delegate from each district was appointed on order of business and basis of representation. All Democrats present were made delegates. The committee reported that the nominations should be first for house of delegates, next county commissioner and then county superintendent of free schools.
T. P. Reay placed in nomination for the house of delegates Mr. Van A. Barrickman and he was unanimously nominated. He responded to calls for a speech in a short and happy address. The impression that he made was a good one and he will make a good canvass. He represents our greatest interest being a student at the University. Should he be elected there is no reason to think that we would lack anything in that direction. His other qualifications for the office are excellent.
For county commissioner Lancelot West, of Clinton and Garrison McLure, of Morgan, were named and on roll call McLure was nominated. He stands for every interest of the town and county and would be the best choice for the position. He will receive a large vote in the county.
For county superintendent S. J. Snider placed in nomination Alexander Eddy, of Battelle district and he was nominated by acclamation. This is a very good selection and he will run well. There is a great deal of dissatisfaction with the Republican nominee and the chance is now given to vote for a man who is thoroughly qualified for the position. There is every possible reason why he should receive the suffrages of the people who are interested in education in the county and who do not care to see it go back any.
The members of the county executive committee were then confirmed as follows:
Battelle district, Dan L. Tennant and the E.J. Eddy; Cass. W. P. Barker and Lorenzo Davis; Clay, R. S. Lantz and S. J. Snider; Clinton. Solomon Frum and Clark Powell; Grant, A. S. Barker and S. J. Kennedy; Morgan, J. J. Wharton and Justin M. Kunkle; Union, William Kussart and J. J. Pomeroy.
The following resolution was then proposed and adopted by the convention:
The Democracy of Monongalia county in convention assembled do hereby heartily endorse the nomination of our standard bearer for Congressional honors for his fearless defense and steadfast adherence to the principles of the party. Always loyal, always true, always brave in upholding the principles of Democracy we hail him as a victorious leader and congratulate him in advance on the triumph which surely awaits him.
The convention then adjourned.
EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE MEETING.
Immediately after the adjournment of the county convention the executive committee met in the same place. It was called to order by the chairman John Alexander. Justin M. Kunkle was made secretary of the meeting.
The matter of election commissioners and challengers was then taken up and they were named in every district except Morgan where they have not finally been selected.
The list is as follows; the name of the commissioner being given first and the name of the challenger second.
Battelle district: Wadestown J. D. Haines and L. R. Taylor, Cross Roads E. J. Tennant and Irvin Tennant, Wise Miles Strosnider and W. F. Staggers.

The resignation of chairman Alexander from the duties of the position which he has acceptably filled for a number of years was read at the committee meeting and after discussion it was accepted. J. J. Wharton was chosen as chairman and the temporary secretary was made the secretary of the committee.
The county chairman was directed to appoint a central committee of four members one of whom was to be John Alexander to look after things and run the campaign in connection with the executive committee. The other members will be named later after consultation and an investigation of the field by the chairman.
The thanks of the committee and the county convention were returned to Jason Clark for the use of his building.
There being no further business the committee adjourned to meet at the call of the chairman.
