BADINAGE.

The writer of the following no doubt alludes to an incident said to have occurred at the "Naval Ball" some evenings ago, at which, in sportive gallantry the colors of the Macedonian were laid at a lady's feet. If the incident did occur, as reported, we certainly did not witness it.

While Paul's great dome shows flags of France and Spain,
By Britain won with ease upon the main;
Columbia, modest, like a young beginner,
Shows one, obtained with ease, from that old sinner;
Displays her Conquest at her private balls,
And waits for numbers to out-rival Paul's.
No monarch here, at whose proud feet to lay
The rising Emblem of her future way—
Her modest Heroes find their wish complete
In British colors at a Lady's feet.
