ENDORSES ACTION
BY LEGISLATURE
The Juneau-Douglas civil defense council at its meeting Tuesday night endorsed the question of the legislature to enact a short bill giving civil defense personnel the power of arrest for violation of civil defense regulations. Civil defense personnel at the present time have the power to arrest violators within the city limits of any city.
School practice alerts will be planned after discussions are held with school officials.
The civil defense council hopes to erect signs in the near future marking casualty stations and to keep private cars from blocking entrances to the stations. First aid kits will be given to each civil defense district as soon as the Alaska Department of Health inspects the material on hand.
Plans are being made to create a messenger force from the ranks of the Boy Scouts upon obtaining individual parent's consent.
The Bureau of Public Roads warehouse will possibly be secured for use as an auxiliary civil defense headquarters. Motor pool plans are being made with the health and hospitalization services.
Four new districts were created at last night's meeting. They are as follows. On the Glacier Highway from the Marsh mink farm to the hill on the other side of Montana Creek. From Salmon Creek to Vanderbilt Hill with the Dr. Dick Williams residence as headquarters. Salmon Creek to near the Charles Carter residence on the Glacier Highway, and one extending north on the highway on Douglas Island from the bridge. The new districts were created because the existing ones were too large.
The alert alarm will be speeded up at all other alerts.
