The finance committee of City Council, at the regular meeting to-night, will recommend that the work of macadamizing Main Street begin at once. It is not contemplated that Main Street be macadamized from end to end at once, but a portion of it will be macadamized now and the work continued from time to time as funds become available. If a start is not made the street will never be macadamized, and if the work is to wait until the money to pay for all of it accumulates in the treasury, Sumter folks will continue to feel ashamed of their main thoroughfare until the end of time.
