A dispatch has also been received from the United States Consul General at Lisbon which states that certain sanitary measures of a precautionary character have been taken by the Portuguese Government against the introduction of the Asiatic cholera at this time epidemic in Egypt.
By a ministerial decree the Egyptian ports of the Mediterranean were declared infected by cholera and all the Red Sea ports were declared suspected.
The Spanish Government has imposed similar vigorous measures upon vessels arriving from the English ports, and a portion of the Madrid press has advised that until similar restrictions are imposed in Portuguese ports upon such vessels, an embargo be laid upon all persons entering Spain by land from Portugal.
It is said that concert of action is contemplated by certain of the European powers as regards the continental ports of central Europe, and that stringent measures are under consideration to restrict intercourse with the ports now so plainly afflicted.
