Full Text

The London Times in discussing the cotton trade in England, declares that the depression in a great measure is owing to 'the superiority of the American manufacturers.' This unwilling admission, yet it is pregnant with meaning. The supremacy of England being lost, the next thing in course is the loss of her skilled labor, which will immediately follow trade and settle at those points where manufactures are flourishing. At no distant day therefore we may look for an 'exodus from England, such as we have witnessed from Ireland, and are now witnessing from Germany. The future of that country is clouded. The long established system of aristocracy is slow to bend to the tendency of the age, and as a consequence, the country must suffer a decadence.
