CHICAGO,--(INS)-- Delegates of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity unanimously adopted a resolution Saturday calling upon the Federal Government to enforce the ruling of the United States Supreme Court against segregated education.
The fraternity has a membership of 24,000 men in 242 chapters located throughout the nation.
In the resolution passed at the annual convention in Chicago, the delegates charged that "organized efforts are being made by representatives of 11 states to nullify the purpose and effect of the Supreme Court decision."
Mississippi was singled out for particular criticism.
The Alpha Phi Alpha delegates asked the government to protect the right of citizens of our republic.
