Immediately after the adjournment of the State Whig Convention, the Burlington Hawkeye placed the nominees at the head of its columns and gave the ticket what we considered a full endorsement, and especially lauded Mr. Grimes, the nominee for Governor. Since that time, however, some person signing himself "No Office Seeker," appears in that paper in a communication taking grounds against the Convention and its nominees, and the Hawkeye so far assents to the opinions set forth by the writer above mentioned, as to say that it is in no way committed either to the ticket nominated, or the platform put forth by the Convention! This is playing "pig and puppy" with a vengeance. If the Hawkeye believes the ticket, as it now stands, is composed of good men and true Whigs let it come out boldly and say so. Or if any of them hold such opinions as do not accord with the editor's views, let him repudiate their nomination and take their names out of his columns. So far as the platform is concerned, we conceive it to be good enough for any Whig to stand on. It does not seem necessary, in our views, to reiterate, on every occasion, that we endorse the Compromise of 1850, for our action as a party heretofore, has fully settled that point, and we have as yet seen no action of any Convention which repudiates that Compromise. Let us go to work, then, and fight for the men that are now on the ticket, who we know to be tried whigs, and not let one unfortunate nomination spoil and defeat the whole ticket. Our candidate for Governor is a good nomination, the rest of the candidates on the ticket are good whigs, and if the proper issues are brought fully before the people, our chances of success are better than at any election heretofore. Come up to the work friend Pierson, and let us give the Locos battle with an undivided and unbroken front.

The article criticizes this inconsistency and urges bold support for the ticket, affirming the platform's adequacy and the candidates' Whig credentials, calling for united effort against opponents.
