$85,000 Is Collected On C of NJ

The BRT, BLE, BLF&E and ORC recently settled a docket of miscellaneous cases on the Central Railroad of New Jersey with payments amounting to approximately $85,000 for "rails" on the property.

BRT members had important time claims and other grievances handled satisfactorily in the negotiations and come in for a good share of the total money paid under the settlement.

All BRT matters in dispute were disposed of with the exception of 14 cases which are to be referred to arbitration.

D. A. Giles, BRT general chairman on Central of New Jersey, was assigned as deputy president by President W. P. Kennedy to handle this dispute.

The carrier formally withdrew all proposals in connection with making permanent abolishment of any of the regularly-assigned runs in interdivisional service between Jersey City, N. J. and Mauch Chunk, Pa.

If, in the future, circumstances arise which will require the Central of New Jersey to again consider permanently abolishing any (Continued on Page 8)

of these runs in this service. the carrier agreed to proceed in the manner prescribed in the Railway Labor Act, as amended.

The four organizations were preparing to withdraw from service in January when management made little effort to clear up items in controversy and a strike was postponed when mediation was invoked in the dispute.

Assisting committees of the other three rail unions in winning this settlement were: J. J. Reilly, assistant grand chief engineer, BLE;. J. E. Magill, vice-president, ORC, and J. J. Murray, vice-president, BLF&E.
