Will Be on Program at Commencement; Sermon Next Sunday Evening by Rev. D. E. Earnhardt
Five members of this year's graduating class of the Henderson high school have been selected as the speakers at the graduating exercises the night of May 18, it was announced today by Prof. W. D. Payne, principal of the school. They were selected from among the entire 115 members of the class, largest in the history of the school.
The five are Jane Thompson, Jane Newell, C. Barton Hoyle, Carolyn Duke and George Rose.
Each will discuss some phase of the general theme, "Mastery of the Tools, Technics and Spirit of Learning."
For several years this form of speaking has been had by the graduating class instead of a commencement speaker.
Miss Agnes Patterson will serve as chairman of the panel discussion. Miss Mary Harrison Benson, of the high school faculty, will assist the five students in preparing their speeches for the night of commencement.
The first event of the closing will be the baccalaureate sermon next Sunday evening in the high school auditorium, by Rev. D. E. Earnhardt, retiring president of Louisburg College, and former pastor of the First Methodist church here.
Other events of commencement will take place the week of May 15.
