Full Text

Hon. Wm. A. Jones will have opposition for renomination, according to a dispatch to the Norfolk Virginian, but his opponent is so little known to fame, the correspondent could only give his last name. The gentleman hails from Fredericksburg, is a "new comer" to that ancient burg and his name is Tyler. He is engaged in manufacturing there, is said to have some money to invest in the contest and is so popular that he was recently elected to the city council. The description does not seem to indicate that Mr. Jones would have in him a very formidable opponent and it is hardly probable that the Democrats of the first district will consent to change their present faithful and efficient representative for one so unknown to them, and of such doubtful qualifications for the high office. He might have run well as a "dark horse," but as a candidate so early in the congressional race the description given of him will hardly convince the average voter that he has any claim upon them, over scores of other men in the district.
