NEW LONDON CLERICUS MEETS IN POMFRET

The New London Archdeaconry Clericus met in Pomfret on Tuesday October 4th. The meeting began with a celebration of the holy communion at 11 o'clock. The rector being the celebrant assisted by the Rev. Edwin G. Morris. rector of St. Andrew's church, Norwich.

After the service the annual meeting was held at the rectory. At one o'clock lunch was served, and after an interval, the members reassembled to hear a paper given by the Rev. Dr. Parkes, rector of Grace church. Yantic. The subject of the paper was "The Significance of the Old Testament for Religion Today."

The subject was most ably presented and displayed much thought and considerable knowledge of the Old Testament Literature on the part of the speaker. The discussion which followed was most interesting, and disclosed how absorbingly vital is the Old Testament theology and how powerful is its influence in religion today. Words change their meaning and ideas have to be modified, but man's hopes and fears are present at every level of emergency The speaker said it was most unfortunate the title "Old Testament" has been regarded as something antiquated: that is. the stream of religious consciousness and development which the Old Testament so richly teaches flowed into the New Testament by which it is fulfilled in the revelation of the gospel.

Those present at the meeting were: Rev. Archdeacon Brown of Trinity church, Norwich, the Rev. John R. Jones (president) of St. Alban's church, Danielson. Rev. Thomas H M. Ockford, of St. James church Poquetanuck. Rev. Thomas Rickey of Christ church. Norwich, Rev. Edwin G. Morris of St. Andrew church, Norwich, Rev. B. B. Styring of St. Paul's church. Willimantic. Rev. G. Edgar Tobey of Christ church, Westerly, R. I., Rev. Frank H. Bigelow of the Rectory School. Pomfret, Rev. George A. Alcott of Voluntown, Rev. Dr. Parkes of Grace church. Yantic, Rev. Charles M. Gross of St. Philip's church, Putnam and the Rev. Leonard R. Richards of Christ church, of Pomfret.
