On Saturday night last, a part of a company of volunteers, who had been upon a scout after Indians, returned--they had followed a trail for a considerable distance. & had taken one horse--the remainder of the party encamped on the trail for the night : and so near were they to the Indian Camp. that one of the Indian horses came that night to their camp.
On Sunday morning a detachment from capt. Andrew's Rangers started upon the same trail; and on the afternoon of the next day, came up with and killed one Indian--the detachment continued the pursuit with so much activity, and so closely pursued were the Indians, that they left their horses and took into a swamp where they could not be followed--five horses and some Indian plunder fell into their hands.
Since which time, parties of rangers and citizens have been out daily; but could make no discovery of Indians until Thursday evening last, when a party of the United States soldiers from Fort Knox, four in number, were fired on in the lower prairie, about three miles below this place, by a party of six Indians.
On the following morning, a detachment of capt Andrew's rangers started in pursuit; we hope they may again be able to come up with them.
