Shocking Effects of Charcoal.—On the morning of the 17th inst., Mr. Adam P. Dennis, his wife and one of his children, residing in the village of Pine Plains, were found dead in their beds, from suffocation by the effects of burning charcoal in a portable furnace, in their bed room. Owing to the coldness of the weather the coal was taken into the room before going to bed, for the purpose of warming it. In the night Mr. Dennis got up and told his mother, who lodged in an adjoining room, that his wife and girl were sick, and had been vomiting. He then took another quantity of burning charcoal into the room and closed it. In the morning all three were found dead in their beds! Is it not most extraordinary that after the repeated warnings that have been published people will still continue to use such a deadly article as charcoal in a bed room—Poughkeepsie Eagle.
