Black Crackers Kick Monarchs Down Ladder

(CHICAGO. Ill.-(SNS)-The Atlanta Black Crackers kicked the Kansas City Monarch back down the ladder to second place Sunday when Greene with three triples and Pelham with a circuit smash behind three runners, paced the Georgia nine to victories in both ends of a doubleheader by scores of 6-5 and 9-2.

The Chicago American Giants ascended to the top of the heap with the Black Crackers holding on to the third spot. Atlanta is getting great hurling from Evans, Duncan and Dixon right now.

Memphis has shown a return to her June form with a streak of five in succession since the improved Birmingham Barons stopped them, 6 to 3, in Rickwood field Sunday, August 14.

At present the teams are standing this way.

The Atlanta Black Crackers return to their native home the middle of the present week where they start a four-game series with the rejuvenated Memphis Red Sox The Atlanta team has given Memphis plenty of trouble all the year but has never been able to win a game of the seven played

A decisive win in this series will re the Atlanta team rise just about to the top of the league standings If the team loses it will descend to tie territory near the bottom of the ladder.

The Crackers gave Chicago a headache last week and lost by the very close margins of 6-5 and 4-1 after giving the Giants a terrific tussle. Faulty base running and questionable strategy by the team leaders caused the visitors from Auburn avenue to lose more than any single factor.

A Coming Combination
The team showed a new hustle at Kansas City and plans to carry the fight to Memphis all the way this week, in the familiar and friendly atmosphere of Ponce de Leon park.

The Jacksonville Red Caps played in Columbus, Ga. on Saturday and Sunday then motored up to Asheville, N. C. for a series which started Monday night. Chicago and Kansas City are booked for a flare up in Kansas City during the week while Indianapolis and Birmingham are to fight it out in Mounds, Ill., and surrounding towns.

Atlanta fans are anxious to see the Crackers in action. They have not seen the team in action in nearly a month so the Memphis series will be a welcome sight. The Atlanta-Memphis series starts on Thursday night at Ponce de Leon park. The teams play again Friday night and then end the dates with a double-bill on Sunday.
