Proved Faithless to Young Chicago Authoress and She Attempted to End Her Life.
The Chicago Tribune yesterday contained the following story of the perfidy of a Cairo man who was backing "The Adventures of a Young Girl:"
Miss Viola Larsen, Forty-third and Addison avenues yesterday was given by Justice Short the alternative of paying a $100 fine or going to Bridewell. She was dressed in deep black, carried a crucifix, and explained that she had gone into Jefferson park and fired four shots at herself with a pistol because she was despondent over the lack of material to complete the novel she was writing, "The Adventures of a Young Girl." All of the shots missed.
The young lady said she had been corresponding with a man in Cairo, Ill., about her book but he had proved faithless. She believed he would have made good material for the villain.
Prior to the alleged attempt at suicide, Miss Larsen telephoned and asked forgiveness from Miss Juliet Bond, to whom she wrote threatening letters last July and was arrested.
