"ATROCIOUS PIRACY."
Under this terrific caption a story has been in circulation for a few days past, of the capture of a Philadelphia packet ship for Liverpool, by pirates. We have delayed putting any of the accounts in type, from the expectation and hope that it would prove to be a false alarm, in which we have not been disappointed. The following paragraph from the Journal of Commerce, Oct. 30, puts the matter to rest:
"The steam Packet New York, Capt. Spinney hence at Charleston, reports that on Sunday morning Sept. 22d, he passed the packet ship Susquehanna, from Philadelphia for Liverpool, twelve leagues east of Cape Henlopen. Of course this puts an end to the report which has caused so much distress, for the pilots say the ship was captured on Saturday afternoon."
