Broken Rails.

LIMA, O., Dec. 16.—A frightful accident occurred two miles east of this city this morning on the Pittsburg, Fort Wayne & Chicago road. It was the west bound Columbian express that suffered by this most peculiar accident. The train was running fast to make up for lost time, and on approaching the switch where the freight train was standing a rail broke apparently after part of the train had passed over it. The sleeping car left the track and struck the freight engine. The sleeping car Dolphos was wrecked, but was erect. The Arden was lying on its side in the ditch. The dining car chef, Manuel, and Augustus, the cook, were caught and crushed, Manuel dying in half an hour. Augustus was badly bruised and scalded. P. J. Nulf, fireman of the freight, had both legs smashed. His home is in Fort Wayne. Among the passengers in the Arden who were injured were: O. W. George, Cincinnati, head cut, badly bruised; H. L. Turner, Philadelphia, head and side cut; W. G. Hamilton, New York, consulting engineer of the road, injured internally, not seriously; Jacob A. Laripere, Grand Rapids, Mich., reported dying; Mrs. Josephine Plenty, Jersey City, cut on the face and body; J. S. Rummells, Chicago, badly cut on the left side and leg; Mr. and Mrs. Frank E. Dunne, Mifflintown, Pa., cut by glass; Foote, of Chicago, conductor of the car Dolphos, is seriously injured.
