IT WILL TAP WEST VIRGINIA FIELDS TO SUPPLY A NEW GAS MARKET.
PITTSBURGH: March 31.--Forty-five miles of natural gas pipe line, constructed of 16-inch steel pipe, has been ordered by one of the subsidiary concerns of the Standard Oil Company from Pittsburgh mills. The order is one of the largest for this large-sized pipe that has been placed in some time, and it is understood that it was awarded to the National Tube Company.
The pipe line will supply new gas consuming markets, and begin in the West Virginia gas fields. It will feed from the wells into small lines that reach direct to the territory that is to be served, but these general plans have not been made public. Gas men say that the new line with its construction and the large amount of accessories required will represent over a million dollars' investment and makes one of the most important contracts of the current year.
