L. A. Linder returned to the city Friday and left that afternoon for Rochester, where he was present at an operation performed upon his wife Saturday. Mrs. Linder has had trouble with her right arm for several months, thinking that she had strained her wrist. Medical opinion in this city, Minneapolis and Rochester having differed as to the nature of the trouble Mr. Linder accompanied his wife to Chicago a week ago, where an eminent specialist was consulted. This physician took the same view of the matter as the Drs. Mayo. Rochester, had done, and the arm was exposed to X-rays with the result that the trouble was clearly revealed. It was seen that a portion of the bone at the wrist had been destroyed by the disease and that an operation was necessary to prevent its spread. A microscopical examination of the flesh taken from the seat of the trouble was also made.
It was determined that the Drs. Mayo should perform the operation of removing a portion of the right arm. If the disease has not advanced too far to permit, the amputation will be made below the elbow, otherwise it will be at the elbow.
Mrs. Linder's many friends will sympathize with her in her affliction, and will hope that the surgeon's knife will effect a speedy and complete cure.
The Drs. Mayo performed a successful operation upon Mrs. L. A. Linder at their hospital at Rochester Saturday. It was found necessary to remove the right arm at a point above the elbow, in order that there may be no possibility of a return of the disease. The physicians feel confident that Mrs. Linder has now returned to her full health, and her many friends will join in the hope that this may be so.
