ON TRIAL CRIMINAL DOCKET
COURT LAID OFF OF BOOTLEGGER'S TRIALS DURING TODAY.
Two Women Were Tried and Given Sentences In the County Jail and Case Against Another Dismissed.
The weather was too wet and cloudy today to take up any more bootlegging cases in the district court (in fact the foresight of the district attorney precluded such a condition) so attention was given to other criminal cases on the docket for today. But, despite the change in the class of law violations being tried, the court continued to maintain its 100 per cent record in convictions, although one fellow was given four years yesterday and the case against him was dismissed today.
In the case of Elena Ruiz, charged with theft under $50, the woman was found guilty and sentenced to serve three months in the county jail, while Maria Ruiz, charged with a similar offense, was given the same tenure of residence in the county jail.
Jose Angel Gonzalez, charged with theft over $50, who was arraigned in district court yesterday and given four years in the state penitentiary had the case against him dismissed this morning, on the ground that he was given sufficient punishment by the verdict of the jury yesterday.
Two cases which were set for trial today were reset until tomorrow on account of the absence of some witnesses.
