Parnassian Spring.
The SEASONS of LOVE.
Sung at Vauxhall, by Mrs. Kennedy.
When the bloom of Spring had the rank
And nature's best songsters enliven each grove;
As we scent the perfume, as we hear the soft sound,
'This, this! we exclaim, is the Season of Love!
When the ardour of summer compels our retreat,
With the youth of our choice to some shady alcove;
As we feel the cool air thro' the jessamine sweet,
Our bosoms confess-'tis the Season of Love.
When all-bountiful autumn binds up his gold sheaf,
And we pluck his ripe fruit from the tree while we rove,
As we mark the first fall of the quick fading leaf,
The present, we cry-'is the Season of Love.
When mirth loving winter at home bids us keep,
And rich jests, tales and songs, social happiness prove;
As around the gay hearth to each other we creep,
This, this! all agree, is the Season of Love.
In short, where good humour and cheerfulness reign,
And the true-hearted lovers each other approve;
At home or abroad-in the city or plain-
Autumn, Winter, Spring, Summer, are Seasons of Love.
