THE WHIG CAUSE IN WESTERN VIRGINIA.—We have most cheering intelligence from the country West of the Blue Ridge. From calculations made by gentlemen, well qualified to form an opinion, we are perfectly satisfied, that if the Whigs go to the mountains with the same vote they did in 1840, the State is safe. That the Whigs will do this, we have a stronger confidence than we will express. We content ourselves with saying that the Whigs have lost nowhere out of the Accomac District. The loss there is variously estimated at from 800 to 1200. In nearly every county in Eastern Virginia, not in that District, the Whigs have gained—in some a little, and many very much.—From tide water to the mountain, the gains have been very considerable; and if we are not greatly deceived, will more than make up for any loss sustained in the Accomac District. It is but proper to say, that in stating the Whig loss there at 1200, we have stated it at much more than the Whigs of the District admit. Many sagacious men there are confident that the loss will not reach 500. This can be easily and certainly beaten.—Richmond Whig.
