"Members of the National Medical Association are helping the March of Dimes to finish the job of defeating polio," stated Dr. T. R. M. Howard, president of the National Medical Association. "At the mid-winter meeting of the NMA's executive committee of the Board of Trustees, the physicians expressed their willingness to participate in a national program to vaccinate the 58 million people under forty years of age who have not yet received any vaccination before the 1957 polio season.
"The 5,000 members of the National Medical Association," Dr. Howard said, "are urging all people to get their Salk polio vaccine in the offices of their physicians. Some 51,000,000 adults and children already have started the recommended three shot series."
