Frank Swenson from the Billings office of the US Geological Survey agency will be the principle speaker on the program.
Announcement of the meeting was made this week by Oscar Hippe of Froid, chairman of the local Soil Conservation Districts supervisors.
Swenson will outline what farmers and ranchers may expect as to the amount and quality of underground water in this area. He is well qualified to speak on the subject as he was a member of the crew that made the detailed geological survey in northeast Montana a few years ago.
Soil Conservation Service area personnel will discuss with farmers the possibilities and the difficulties that may be encountered in irrigation in this area. Their phase of the discussion will have to do mainly with soils and quality of irrigation water.
It is expected that two or more drilling firms will have films, colored slides and speakers on the program. Coffee and doughnuts will be served by the District. The group will have an opportunity to see a well being pumped just east of Culbertson. The water yield capacity of this particular well is up to a thousand gallons a minute or more. It is expected that water analysis information from that well will be available by April 7.
The meeting is open to the public and all interested persons are urged to attend.
