Full Text

Exodus of Slaves from Missouri
The Hannibal (Mo.) Gazette says: "During last week over one hundred slaves, from Lewis, Clark and Scotland counties, have passed down on boats, en route for the south, to be sold. Several large dealers are traveling through all the counties of North Missouri, buying up the slaves rapidly, at high prices, to be sold again in the South, where there is a demand for them, and where negro labor is much more remunerative than in this climate. At the present rate of decrease it will not be long before slavery, only to a small extent, will become extinct in Missouri".
