Full Text

Jenkins is one of the Stephen A. Douglas kind of men: the country first the party afterward.--Democratic Exchange.

Not a bit of it. He is one of the kind of men who divided his time, between '61 and '65, in quibbling about the constitution when the Union was being hacked in pieces and in cheering over the Jeff. Davis victories. That is the kind of man Jenkins is and it is a base calumny upon the dead patriot, Douglas, to speak of him in the same breath with the Democratic candidate for Governor of Wisconsin.
