A jury was empanelled in the case of the United States vs. J. J. Rose charged with assault with intent to kill on the 1st of November, 1891, at the Uintah Indian reservation. The defendant is accused of having shot at an Indian named Red Cap; the shot was returned. Three shots were fired by Rose and four by Red Cap. The latter's clothing was slightly mangled having received a bullet through the hat and one through the coat. The Indian was attempting to arrest Rose when the trouble took place; still on trial.

United States Attorney C. S. Varian was in attendance at court yesterday.
