Secretary Andrew Baird Arrives Here Yesterday.
Mr. Andrew Baird, state secretary of the Y.M.C.A., arrived here yesterday and is very enthusiastic over the coming convention of the state associations in this city. He is pleased with the outlook for attendance and thinks that nearly 500 delegates will be in attendance. The arrangements for the entertainment of the guests have been nearly completed and the convention gives promise of being a most successful one.
A number of people well known in Y.M.C.A. work will be present and will take part. Mr. Bruno Hobbs of Cripple Creek, Colo., is to be present, and concerning his work Secretary Baird says:
"Mr. Bruno Hobbs of Cripple Creek, Colo., who as president of the last convention will preside at the opening session of the Y.M.C.A. convention on Thursday night, is a great favorite with the Kansas Y.M.C.A. boys. He is a native of Butler county, Kansas, and spent his early years on a farm. Drawn to the legal profession he entered the law department of the State University, from which he graduated with high honors.
Kansas City, Kan., was chosen as his field of practice and a lucrative and constantly increasing business was built up. His services were sought by two railroads and other corporations. Last March he removed to Cripple Creek, Colo., to become cashier of the Bank of Cripple Creek. He has taken a prominent part in Kansas Y.M.C.A. conventions in the past and his services are in constant demand by conventions in other states.
His address on Friday evening on 'A Business Man's Estimate of the Worth of the Work' will be a masterpiece."
