Leipzig, (in the Upper Saxony.) October 25.

M. Verelst, Envoy Extraordinary from the States-General to the Court of Berlin, who was in that City at the Time of its being taken, at whose Intercession it was in a great Measure preserved, has received the following Letter of Thanks from his Prussian Majesty,

"Monsieur de Verelst,

Though I have been informed of your kind Offices during the Disaster which lately happened to my good City of Berlin, only by vogue and uncertain Reports, yet as these acquaint me that you have been the Means of preserving the Inhabitants from the Hardships and Cruelties the Enemy intended to inflict upon them; I cannot help returning you my Thanks immediately, and letting you know how sensible I am of the Humanity you discovered on this Occasion. I assure you it will ever be fixed in my Memory, and that upon all Occasions which may offer, I shall make it my Business to shew the high Sense I have of the Obligation. I pray God, Monsieur de Verelst, to take you under his Holy Protection.
