Y APPROVES

NEW YORK, Oct. 27 - National YMCA leaders hailed the action of Branch Rickey in signing Jackie Robinson, Negro athlete, to a baseball contract with the Montreal Royals of the International League.

In a telegram sent to Rickey, the Y's officials, headed by National General Secretary Eugene E. Barnett, of White Plains, N. Y., said they had voted "enthusiastically to extend their wholehearted thanks and appreciation to you for your Christian act that the careers of baseball players should be decided on their abilities and not on the color of their skin."
